When I am out on the road, especially during long haul drives, I allow my mind to explore all manner of strategies to promote Touring/Site-seeing/Outdoor Activities so that more people might learn to enjoy what I perceive to be a great lifestyle.
Just one of the numerous ideas that surface, is the encouragement of interested members of the general public to enroll in, or some-how or other to club together to create an association, among the members of which would be the common bond: enjoyment of travel.
There are almost as many reasons to travel, as there are peoples' interests. As regards prospective destinations, well there is the whole of Australia to which we can all enjoy unencumbered access. (It is true that there may be some areas, access to which is strictly subject to negotiating Permits from some authority) But, by and large we incur no impediment in our quest to visit places as far afield as South-west Western Australia and Far North Queensland. We can drive fairly confidently right up through the Red Centre, even on to Darwin in the Northern Territory if the inclination to do so is general enough.
Even the State of Tasmania can be accessed, though at something of a cost premium, to get across the Bass Strait to Launceston. Closer at hand, to ,we have Kangaroo Island to which we enjoy access by vehicular ferry trip. Again, this is available at a rather high extra cost, over just any other 30km. stretch.
In my mind, such a club would comprise only so many individuals as would reasonably be likely to utilize a 20-seater Air-conditioned Diesel modern Coach, capable of a range of 450km. between refuelling stops. How frequently that utilization might occur, and how varied might be the aspirations of the individual members in as much as favoured destinations, or durations of excursions, would have an impact on just what strength membership might be considered optimal.
I have no doubt at all, that such Clubs do exist, probably in fairly large numbers, but that fact does not necessarily render the idea irrelevant. Obviously, to my mind, THIS club would be focused on using Echidna Tours as the Tour Operator on its excursions. That is why this notion is being promoted here in Echidna Tours' Web-site. So my personal agenda in all this is to keep myself occupied and interested in providing a perceived service to an appreciative patronage. Besides, there is still so much of Australia I have not yet experienced, and I would love sharing those experiences with as many of you as I can practicably do.
So, an expression of interest from any member of the South Australian public would be most welcome, to me. That could be in the form of an introductory note sent either in hard copy or electronically to
Echidna Tours.
